Screen   Printing

General Information

In this procedure, ink is applied to the fabric via a silk screen, allowing it to effectively permeate the textile surface due to its liquid nature.

Artwork Guidelines for Screen Printing

We request artwork to be provided in the following preferred vector formats:

  • Adobe Illustrator (.ai)

  • Encapsulated Post Script (.eps)

  • Portable Document Format (.pdf)

The attainable line thickness in screen printing varies depending on the fabric type. Finer lines can be achieved on smooth fabrics compared to coarser polo shirts. Generally, a line thickness of 1mm is achievable on most materials, with lines as narrow as 0.4mm possible on high-quality T-shirt fabric. Although thinner lines may sometimes be feasible, a recommended minimum line thickness of 0.9mm is advised.

Prior to submitting artwork, please adhere to the following instructions:

  • Convert all fonts to outlines.

  • Assign Pantone (PMS) colors if necessary.

  • If applicable, maintain artwork in layers.

  • Submit artwork at the actual size of the intended print. (We recommend designing at final size rather than scaling up in the final step).

If vector format artwork is unavailable, you may submit a raster/pixel image, preferably at a resolution of no less than 300dpi. Often, a conversion of the raster image into a vector format is required before printing.

We are happy to provide this service, but please note that there will be a fee for artwork redraws.

Recognizing that these instructions may seem overwhelming, we understand if you find them confusing. If you have any questions or uncertainties regarding the above guidelines, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to assist you in navigating your options.

Our Screen Printing Procedure

  1. Design Preparation: Create or receive artwork in vector format (AI, EPS, PDF). Convert fonts to outlines. Assign Pantone (PMS) colors if needed. Keep artwork organized in layers

  2. Artwork Inspection:

    • Our pre-production specialists review all files and designs to ensure suitability for clear printing on the final product.

  3. Film Positive Creation:

    • Electronic separation of each color in the design onto individual pieces of film produces a film positive.

  4. Screen Development:

    • The film positive images are exposed onto screen meshes using LED lights, creating stencils for each color.

  5. Printing:

    • Screens are aligned on a press, matching ink colors to the original design.

    • Ink is pressed through the stencil onto the garment using a squeegee, printing the design color by color.

  6. Curing: Garments undergo processing in a heat dryer to permanently cure the ink, enhancing imprint durability.

  7. Finishing:  Inspect finished prints for quality control
  8. Fold and pack prints for shipping or distribution.
